owe的基本意思是“精神与物质上的亏欠”,即“欠某人债,应该向(某人)付出”,引申可表示“某人对于他人、国家负有感激义务等或某人把发现、原理、成就等归于他人”,即“感恩”“感激”“归功于”“由于”。

owe表示“欠(债)”与介词for连用时,后面只接物; 与介词to连用时,后面可接人,也可接物或事物。

owe用作及物动词,其后接名词或代词作宾语,也可接双宾语(两个都是直接宾语)。两个宾语一般说来都可单独出现。

owe作“归功于”解时,一般使用owe...to句型,不用于被动结构。

如果owe的宾语是动词不定式或名词从句,可使用it作形式宾语,将充当真正宾语的动词不定式或名词从句放在句尾。
