say可用作及物动词,也可用作不及物动词。用作及物动词时,后可接名词、代词、动词不定式、带疑问词的不定式或that/wh-从句作宾语。也可引出直接引语。可用于被动结构。有时还可用一般现在时表过去。

say引出直接引语时,如果主句是放在引语之前,主句中的主语不管是名词或是代词,主谓均不倒装; 如果主句是放在引语之后或是插在引语之中,主语是代词时,主谓也不倒装,主语是名词时,主谓常可倒装。

“It is/was said that...”结构的意思是“据说”。

析 表达“说谎”往往用tell a pe〔tell pes〕,而不能说say a pe。
